We Are Water – An Artwork Celebrating The Rich Culture and History of Seattle’s Central District
This video captures the work of Artist Melvin Freeman, AKA Fly Blind Guy and Perri Rhoden, who recently completed the installation of his new artwork, We Are Water, in Seattle’s Central District. The Central District was a predominately African American neighborhood since the 1940s as a result of red-lining and other forms of housing segregation. Since the 1990s the neighborhood has seen widespread displacement and gentrification that has reduced the neighborhood’s Black population from 70% down to 20%.
