Strategies and support for Black, Indigenous, and people of colour in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
We know that it can be tough to be a person of colour working in ecology and evolution. Here is what has worked for us.
The field of ecology and evolutionary biology (EEB) has strikingly low racial diversity, with Indigenous and Black peoples particularly underrepresented1,2,3,4,5. For example, between 2014 and 2018, only 1% of EEB PhD graduates in the United States were Black or African American and 0.2% were American Indian or Alaska Native. This is in contrast to 14% and 2% of Americans identifying as Black/African American and American Indian/Alaska Native, respectively.
