Northeast [US Climate Reslience Toolkit]
The growing frequency of extreme weather events, such as intense rainstorms, and other climate-driven changes, including warmer ocean temperatures and rapid sea level rise, are shaping mitigation and adaptation efforts in the region, such as coastal wetland restoration and changes in fishing behavior. Many climate impacts in the region, including extreme heat and flooding, have disproportionate impacts on low-income communities and communities of color. Relative to non-redlined neighborhoods, historically redlined areas in the Northeast show consistent city-scale patterns of elevated land surface temperatures. Cities, states, and Tribes are implementing climate action plans with innovative approaches that embrace inclusive and equitable processes.
