Fossil Fueled Foolery Video Contest

On April Fools’ Day 2026, The Chisholm Legacy Project (TCLP) released a report, Fossil Fueled Foolery 3.0. The report exposes the fossil fuel industry’s top ten manipulation tactics, including the false choices they routinely present to Black communities. FFF 3.0 also shares examples of local leaders in the U.S. and across the globe who see through the corporate playbook, resist the falsehoods, and clear the way for true justice and a regenerative economy.

To celebrate this release, TCLP is launching the Fossil Fueled Foolery Video Contest to let those resisting the foolery put their creative skills to the test!

The first place winner will receive $5,000, the second place winner will receive $2,000, and the third place winner will receive $1,000. There can only be one winner for each place. There will also be one honorable mention, who will receive $500.

The Challenge

Create a video with a minimum of 2 minutes (120 seconds) and no longer than 5 minutes (300 seconds) responding to this contest.

Group entries must have a designated team leader for communications about technical and administrative issues, and, where applicable, for finalist and winner notification.

Your video should be an engaging and humorous spoof-style production that demonstrates common deceptive tactics used by entities in the fossil fuel energy industry to maintain the status quo. You can use one of the following tactics to frame the plot of your spoof video, or you can come up with your own. Feel free to exercise your creativity through your choice of design, content, video production style, cast of characters, etc.

The fossil fuel industry’s top ten manipulation tactics are as follows:

  • Investing in efforts that undermine democracy
  • Financing political campaigns and pressuring politicians
  • Funding biased scientific research
  • Claiming regulations hurt low-income communities
  • Denying or understating health harms
  • Deflecting responsibility
  • Co-opting community leaders and organizations
  • Exaggerating job creation
  • Praising false solutions
  • “Embracing” renewables to control the market

There are no restrictions about how you make your video. You can talk to the camera, use props, incorporate animations, etc.

The aim is to make your video something anyone can relate to so that everyday people understand and are prepared for the manipulation tactics their communities may encounter. Through this video, you will inspire and educate communities, so they do not allow themselves to be fooled.
